Countless Attend Pro-Palestinian Protests as Coordinators Vow to Keep Protesting

Tens of thousands have rallied throughout the country at pro-Palestinian protests, with organisers promising to persist in activism after a peace arrangement facilitated by Donald Trump in Gaza initially appeared to be holding.

Sydney March Draws Large Crowd

In Sydney, the Palestine Action Group announced a crowd of 30,000 had protested from the central park to a nearby green space in the central business district after a intended demonstration to the iconic venue was prohibited by the New South Wales court of appeal in recent days.

Local authorities approximated a crowd of 8,000 joined the city demonstration, with a spokesperson saying there had been "peaceful proceedings".

Countrywide Protests Remember Occasion

Protests were also organized in Melbourne, Queensland's capital and Western Australian city on the day of protest to commemorate the ongoing situation after Hamas attacks on October 7th, 2023 resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in the region.

"In terms of the movement, we'll absolutely continue to advocate for liberation... for self-determination in Gaza, for aid to be allowed in and for locals to reconstruct their homes," commented one organiser.

Mixed Reactions to Truce Arrangement

Various participants expressed hope that the ceasefire would lead to lasting peace. Some were doubtful of Trump's involvement and called on activists to maintain pressure on the federal leadership to impose restrictions and halt weapons commerce.

One protester, a local with Palestinian heritage based in Australia, shared he hoped the deal might enable him to assist his senior relative, who is still in Gaza without medical attention, to his current home, and to find and bury his brother, sister-in-law and their four children, who have been unaccounted for since that year.

Local Jewish Population Organizes Memorial

Meanwhile, many individuals attended a Jewish memorial service on that night in Sydney's eastern suburbs to commemorate the two-year mark of the October attacks. A participant, the family member of someone affected, an national who was killed during the attacks, was arranged to talk.

There were prayers for the imminent repatriation of the captives still held in the territory and the victims of the attacks. The diplomatic representative, the diplomat, recognized the determination of those affected. The crowd booed when he referenced the head of government and the top diplomat.

Flotilla Participants Share Experiences

The city's demonstration earlier included testimonies including four Australians released from Israeli detention after the stopping of the protest boats this month.

One activist, his arm in a sling after it was reportedly injured in an Israeli prison, told that insufficient information was available about the peace agreement. Worldwide assistance agencies, including humanitarian bodies, were organizing to reach the region.

"While circumstances persist where there's a harsh and unlawful restriction on Gaza," said the participant, flotilla activists would persist in attempting to deliver aid by sea.

Another participant, who returned to Sydney on Friday, gave an moving testimony recounting his imprisonment with dozens of fellow detainees in Israel's Ketziot prison.

Leadership Remarks

The elected official the politician told the crowd: "We cannot let a reality where the former president decides the outcome for Palestinian communities to be the kind of world that we live in."

A different coordinator who submitted the original application to protest at the iconic venue claimed that the demonstrators might have securely proceeded to the renowned coastal site. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the court of appeal that the plan had "disaster written all over it".

The organiser commented during the protest: "On each occasion the authorities try to restrict our protests or legal challenges, it increases community attention... to the importance of gathering and oppose such actions."
