Hodgkinson Wraps Up Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap campaign with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.
{The current Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the 100m and 200m double.
